As we delved into the world of horology, we are continuously being enchanted by the intricate craftsmanship and timeless allure of wristwatches. Recently, I had an idea of collaborating with fellow watch enthusiasts, by reaching out and hearing about his/her 3-watch selection and the stories behind each timepiece. I'm thankful for those who have graciously shared their prized collection. Each watch holds not just the promise of precise timekeeping, but a rich tapestry of stories and memories waiting to be unveiled. Meet "Jerry", a true connoisseur of timepieces whose passion for watches transcends mere admiration. Jerry's journey in the world of watches is a testament to his deep appreciation for craftsmanship and heritage. As we sat down together, he eagerly shared the stories behind his three most cherished watches, each one representing a unique chapter in his life and a cherished piece of history on his wrist. I'm thankful for his sharing and here we go...

Seiko White Shogun (SPB191/SBDC131)

What's the reason behind getting the Seiko White Shogun?

J: I got this watch to commemorate my leap of faith into a new career journey, which takes me closer to my desire to help others. The clean white dial serves as a reminder for me to be the light in the darkness; to be a "merchant of hope" as I walk with others in their pain and wounds.

There are also other watches with white dials, so why a Seiko?

J: It serves as my key "Japanese" piece, symbolising my wife's and my love for Japan (where we went for our honeymoon).

CWC SBS Diver

What's the reason behind getting a CWC watch and specifically the SBS Diver model?

J: This blacked out watch is the officially issued watch of the Special Boat Service (SBS), a unit of the British Royal Navy that conducts high impact covert operations. It commemorates my "past life" in the government organisation that has some similarities with the SBS.

Why did you decide to leave your previous profession and what does this watch reminds you of?

J: For a number of reasons, I never truly accepted myself as a legitimate member of the organisation and I felt I didn't truly belong. Recently, I embarked on a journey to accept and affirm myself. I learnt to see that although the nature of my work in the organisation was humble and not "headline-making," I indeed contributed and made a difference to many officers in my time there. This watch represents this milestone of accepting my place in this period of my life.

Casio G-Shock GW5000U

Not a surprising brand option, but why the GW5000U?

J: My "work watch." While it doesn't have a deep or significant life story attached to it, I consider this one of my everyday pieces. Wearing this on most work days as it looks modest on the wrist, yet sharp and presentable, while retaining a boatload of functionality.

There is a huge fan base when it comes to G-Shocks, are you one of them?

J: It is my link to the watch hobby/community. A piece that is truly a IYKYK kind of watch, without breaking the bank. Another tidbit is that this watch connected me to a good friend in the G-Shock community. I bought this from a local Casio boutique - quite a rare opportunity since Singapore Casio boutiques usually do not stock this watch. When I bought it, I received a gift: A watch stand in the shape of the iconic G. I basically helped this friend to obtain this rare stand and in return, I made a good online G-Shock friend!
