Chronicle of Time: The Kurono Tokyo Chronograph 3 HISUI:翡翠

My watch journey took a captivating turn with the Kurono Tokyo Chronograph 3. This Japanese masterpiece transcends horological norms, capturing the essence of precision and elegance. Since it’s my first leap into the realm of micro watch brands, it definitely deserves a post about my first impression of it. In fact, one new year resolutions I have set out for myself this year, is to write about some of the interesting timepieces that I have the chance to experience first hand, and this includes those that have a story to tell.

Kurono Tokyo Chronograph 3 Dial

The Kurono Tokyo Chronograph 3, nicknamed HISUI:翡翠, isn't just a timepiece; it's an artful symphony of meticulous craftsmanship and innovative design. From the captivating dial intricacies to the flawless chronograph functionality, every detail resonates with the soul of Japanese watchmaking. The dial is highlighted by a jade-green band around the indices, whereby a technique called pointillism was used for the green band.

There are 2 subdials at ‘3’ and ‘9’ which are guilloché-engraved radially, a decorative technique used in metalwork since the 18th century to create intricate patterns. Also a technique that reminds me of the watch brand Atelier Wen. A 3rd texture (and color) in the form of a slightly off-white lacquer dial truly compliments the jade-green band, beautifully portraying the Itoigawa jade. As someone with a small wrist (for a guy), and who doesn’t like a watch too big for my wrist, although I still try and pull off a 42mm diameter watch sometimes, a 38mm Chronograph definitely entices me. One concern I had initially is the thickness of the watch case which was thankfully eased as the Chronograph 3 leverages on a thinner mark 2 case, slimmer than the older Kurono models.

As I embraced this micro brand marvel, I found myself immersed in a world where time isn't just measured; it's celebrated. The sleek, stainless steel case exudes sophistication, while the dial, adorned with sub-dials and luminescent markers, tells a story of precision and dedication. The Kurono Tokyo Chronograph 3 definitely gave me a great first impression when it comes not only to the brand itself but watch micro brands in general with such an exquisite packaging. In true Japanese style, it comes in a Furoshiki gift wrap and upon revealing the watch box packaging, I’m truly in awe with the attention to detail. I think pictures will do it justice more than how I can express it in words.

What sets the Kurono Tokyo Chronograph 3 apart is not just its mechanical prowess but the story it tells on my wrist. It's more than a timekeeping device; it's a statement, a testament to my appreciation for craftsmanship beyond the mainstream.

Navigating the intricacies of Japanese micro watch brands led me to discover a timepiece that resonates with my individuality. The Kurono Tokyo Chronograph 3 is more than a watch; it's a companion on my journey through moments and memories.

In a world where mass-produced watches dominate, this micro brand gem stands as a beacon of uniqueness. With the Kurono Tokyo Chronograph 3, I've not only acquired a timepiece but a piece of Japanese horological artistry that reflects my style and passion.
